Mucking around in Vietnam

Good morning, Vietnam! 

The dinky plane bounces off the runway. At the Dalat Palace, in the former French colonial hill station, Catherine Deneuve in Indochine haunts us over high tea.

Next, an exciting but terrifying bus ride to the coast to Nha Trang. To relax, we rent bathing gear and soak in a barrel of mud. Small talk with Russian tourists Boris and Natasha. The best borscht, ever. 

To Hanoi and finally, to Ho Chi Minh, formerly Saigon, for Maple Bear school tours and non-stop eating. Pho three times a day, if I could.

Soon to become a brand creator, whatever that is, I was still ‘wife-of’, making it all up as I went along. No one noticed.

“And what the heck is the American War?”
