A priceless wedding

We accepted the invitation in a flash. Who wouldn’t want to attend a destination Indian wedding?

The venue was the Ritz-Carleton Hotel in Muscat, Oman. Every room was reserved for the guests of our South Asian Maple Bear partner in the UAE and his bride.

I immediately nixed the idea of wearing Indian formal wear. Rodney’s sartorial choice was easier, as usual. Men on the ‘groom’s side’ wore orange turbans. The groom’s headpiece was way more elaborate. I just tried to blend in, never easy for me.

An Indian chupah stole the show. It was a wedding canopy unlike any other. The backdrop wasn’t too shabby either.

The booze-free Omani hotel charged corkage fees. Watching the consumption of alcohol, we calculated it must be a million-dollar wedding.

We vastly underestimated.

“Six million at least,” our Kenyan partner and friend of the groom’s deadpanned.

Whatever it cost, we all agreed it was a priceless experience.
